About the research

The Multipurpose Network Control Protocol Suite for the entertainment technology industry designed to provide interoperability between different equipment, “ANSI E1.17-2006 – Architecture for Control Networks (ACN)” (2006), was ratified in October 2006 by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) after extensive work by ESTA Technical Standards Program (TSP).

From a theoretical perspective the developments within ACN have been rapid. However, despite the immense amount of work put into the ACN standard, the complex nature of the protocol, as well as potential pitfalls and shortcomings, has implications for implementation.

How will the entertainment lighting industry implement the suite of protocols and languages of ANSI E1.17-2006 – Architecture for Control Networks (ACN) and utilize mainstream network technologies?
